Role Overview

As Strategy Director, you’ll lead strategy and execution across a wide range of projects and clients tailored to the fast-paced world of retail and consumer goods. You’ll manage a multidisciplinary team—including digital strategists, analysts, copywriters, social media managers, and paid media specialists. You’ll also work beside designers, developers, UX/UI specialists, photographers, and videographers to deliver high-impact work across digital, in-store, and omnichannel campaigns. You will also help us with account management and communications with customers to ensure their vision is delivered. 

You’ll play a key role in shaping the go-to-market strategy, visual and verbal identity of brands through traditional and digital marketing, digital design, advertising, packaging, branding, social content, digital media, retail media, and more, ensuring all creative work aligns with both client objectives and the demands within the CPG and retail/supplier industries. You will focus on more than aesthetic elements, but also be responsible to develop marketing strategies and creative frameworks that facilitate results in marketing campaigns. Your main objective will be to help our clients grow and set them up for success with strategy that disrupts, turns heads, and achieves the right outcomes for our brand scorecards.  

You’ll be responsible for managing and recruiting talent (contractors), overseeing tactics/SOPs, and setting quality standards across all creative deliverables. You’ll also be responsible for some project management and maintaining clear communication and progress on our project management software, ClickUp. You’ll also be responsible for helping our team grow in the use of AI and new technologies or platforms. You will be asked to create a short and long-form vision for the strategy department of our agency. 

Responsibilities

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Brand Strategy - Define and evolve the brand’s (Revival) creative strategy to align with our mission, vision, values, goals, and go-to-market strategy to uphold high standards of creative quality, ensuring brand integrity, and customer satisfaction. 
  • Go To Market and Competitive Research - Conduct market, audience, and competitive analyses to uncover opportunities for brand growth and differentiation. Then, work with the creative director to write go-to-market strategies, advise on brand recommendations, help to generate concepts, and tactics that will help to disrupt and compete where needed. 
  • Background Account Support - Provide behind-the-scenes strategic and account support where accounts need senior input, ensuring continuity and quality without necessarily being the day-to-day contact.
  • Client Advisor - Serve as a strategic advisor to senior client stakeholders and as a fractional marketing director/CMO voice when needed. Translate complex business challenges into actionable strategies and tactical documents. Advise internal teams with marketing and strategy help when needed. 
  • Client Discovery - Lead discovery conversations with prospective and existing clients. Uncover needs, diagnose challenges, and shape the strategic opportunity.
  • Insight and Brief Development - Leverage consumer, cultural, and category research to inform positioning, messaging, and creative briefs. Then, write clear, inspiring creative briefs and collaborate closely with creative, media, and digital teams to ensure work aligns with strategy.
  • Social and Paid Media - Oversee all paid and social media including but not limited to campaigns across Google, Facebook (Meta), X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, and more. This includes content strategy, targeting strategy, messaging and copy, creative inspiration, advertising and platform strategy, and ad reporting, performance and optimization. 
  • Measurement and Optimization - Define success metrics, assess campaign performance, and use findings to inform future strategy and creative direction. Help turn analytics into reports, dashboards, and scorecards for customers to use to assess marketing effectiveness and return on investment. 
  • Team Leadership - Lead and inspire high-performing creative teams, contractors, and agency partners fostering innovation, collaboration, and clear goal-setting. Lead the creative team with weekly and monthly meetings to lead all project management, creative direction, quality assurance, and OTIF for execution to scopes. 
  • Goal Setting and KPIs - Translate strategic marketing objectives for both Revival and our clients into clear creative direction and goals, collaborate with the strategy team to align on goals, then track progress and hold the creative team accountable to these goals for growth, execution, and delivery. 
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration - Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to define business goals, create strategies, and deliver outstanding creative work. Foster a collaborative, agile, and innovative work environment. 
  • Marketing Strategy and Conversion Optimization - Write strategy and determine KPI’s to ensure deliverable effectiveness and ROI for clients. Review data and analytics to optimize design and deliverables for continued improvement and growth-oriented results.
  • Messaging and Copy - Manage all brand positioning, messaging, copywriting, content development, and execution across all channels including web, digital, social, print, advertising, branding, presentations, and all digital deliverables.  
  • Lead Brand Design & All Revival Deliverables - Co-lead, maintain, and manage the consistency of our brand (Revival) across all platforms, marketing channels, and digital platforms. 
  • Optimize Processes and Systems - Review and elevate strategic and creative processes across all projects and project management platforms for quality, clarity, timeliness, and effectiveness. 
  • Resource Management - Manage all contractor’s hours, priorities, timelines, and deliverables ensuring that each project is on time, on budget, and delivered in full according to the scope of work. 
  • Concept Development and Execution - Oversee the development and execution of all customer assessments, strategy developments, creative campaigns, events, websites, social media, designs, executive presentations, and videos, ensuring alignment, branding consistency quality, and impact across all channels. Present work to internal stakeholders and clients for review and feedback with clarity and confidence.
  • Quality Control - Manage and ensure quality check of all deliverables before sent to ensure client expectations and scope requirements are met. However, you will hand off responsibilities of quality assurance on design to the creative director to ensure designers are appropriately managed and held accountable. 
  • Talent Development - Recruit, hire, train, and maintain a creative team including designers, social media specialists, and web designers/developers. 
  • Executive Alignment - Build trusted relationships with senior leaders by meeting weekly for check-ins, monthly for department reviews, and quarterly for performance reviews as needed, driving strategic alignment and ensuring creative support of Revival’s broader business growth and priorities. 
  • Continuous Innovation - Stay at the forefront of AI adoption by thoughtfully integrating emerging tools and technologies into creative workflows and project management. Use data and insights to optimize messaging and design for performance, engagement, and conversion. 
  • Intentional Leadership - Be a champion of Revival’s values, leading, and inspiring your team, fostering a culture of curiosity, craftsmanship, performance, excellence, and radical service by being an intentional and visible leader within the marketing team and beyond. 
  • Client Communication and Account Management - You will be expected to speak and communicate on behalf of your creative team to the clients through various channels and meetings. You will be expected to check email, text, and voicemail to respond to time-sensitive messages and requests. 
  • Sales, Concept Pitches, and Scoping - You will be asked to contribute to help the agency capture new business through pitching creative ideas, concepts, sales meetings, and scoping. 

Strategic Oversight

  • Collaborate closely with other departments as well as account managers, strategists, and media planners.
  • Submit work to other departments for feedback and collaborative strategy.
  • Ensure timely delivery and resource allocation (contractor hours) across all design clients/projects.
  • Lead and guide freelancers and vendors when needed to support execution.

Brand Development & Retail-Specific Strategy

  • Partner with strategy team to shape positioning, messaging, and go-to-market creative for retailers, DTC, and other retail environments.
  • Understand retail buyer priorities, today’s shopper marketing trends, and translate them into compelling strategies across each channel and platform.
  • Ensure consistency and adaptability across brand systems for different channels and touchpoints.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of digital agency or in-house brand creative experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Bonus: 3+ years of experience brand-side creative experience working with global brands.
  • Bachelors degree in relevant fields such as Design, Shopper Marketing, Advertising, Marketing, or equivalent experience. 
  • Exceptional storytelling and presentation skills, able to communicate complex ideas simply and persuasively. 
  • Creative Vision and the ability to translate it into compelling campaigns, deliverables, and brand experiences. 
  • Strong understanding of CPG, retail marketing, and shopper behavior (Walmart-specific experience highly preferred).
  • Proven success leading creative work across digital, packaging, and retail-driven campaigns.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Webflow, Canva, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint/Keynote, and other relevant tools.
  • Deep experience in brand storytelling and multi-channel creative development.
  • Comfortable balancing hands-on creative input with team leadership.
  • Strong communication skills—able to translate complex ideas into clear creative concepts and client-friendly presentations.
  • A Portfolio that demonstrates excellence in both concept and execution across various mediums.
